Our story: By Eniola Makinde (Founder)
On a random Sunday morning in the middle of August 2023, I was in church listening to my pastor preach. The message centered on evangelism, and I was excited to learn how to witness Christ to others. I was actively taking notes that I sincerely couldn’t wait to implement, but then something completely different happened.
While my pastor was teaching, she began to speak on interesting ways we could commit to evangelism, and she randomly said, "For example, you could go to a school close to you and start a Bible Club." I felt like I was hit by lightning. Literally.
I immediately knew that the Holy Spirit wanted me to do it and to do it urgently. What also made it come alive to me was the fact that, for almost 3 months before that Sunday, I had nursed a longing in my heart for young children & teenagers. Sometimes, I would see teenagers and young children not walking in line with God’s will, and a wave of sadness would wash over me. I honestly tried to ignore it for a while, but God would not have it.
Before these events, I worked as a Bible Study Coach. My day-to-day involved equipping, teaching, & supporting believers in understanding the Bible better. All this time, I thought my assignment was to adults alone, but oh how things were about to change rather rapidly for me.
With God’s help, I acted on the promptings in my heart. I drafted out a curriculum, sent out proposals to 2 schools within my neighborhood, followed up with them, and miraculously got positive feedback from both of them! Just like that, I spent the next 3 months teaching Bible literacy to about 35 students spread across 2 different schools.
To the Glory of God, that one simple act of obedience has grown into the DTL Bible Club, which we now have today, and I make bold to say that we have only just begun!
